- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup crushed cornflakes
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Chopped fresh parsley, optional
- 1-1/2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons shredded cheddar cheese or grated Parmesan cheese, optional
- 3/4 teaspoons salt, optional
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3 cups diced peeled turnips
- 2 cups water

Step 1
- Place the turnips, water and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer, for 5-8 minutes or until tender.

- In another saucepan, melt butter; stir in flour and salt if desired until smooth. Gradually add milk; bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened and bubbly. Stir in turnips.
